QleanAir Scandinavia has earned our full confidence as a partner
Company Overview
Fraport AG, based in Frankfurt am Main, is one of the world’s largest airport operating companies, employing 20,000 people and are actively engaged in numerous international airports, either through ownership stakes or service partnerships.
At its “reference model,” Frankfurt Airport, including its subsidiaries, around 18,500 employees are employed. Of these, approximately 7,500 work in the Strategic Business Unit “Ground Services”, (SBU) which primarily offers operational services related to aircraft handling and passenger care.
SBU employees work in rotating shifts, typically seven days in a row, and are frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions on the airport loading ramps. The individual operational sites are spread across the entire airport grounds to provide services for internationally operating airlines as efficiently as possible.
Why smoking cabins?
In the operational departments of SBU, where work is often ongoing around the clock, the proportion of smoking employees is particularly high – around 55%. Before the legal regulations for non-smoker protection came into effect, the company tried to separate smokers and non-smokers through spatial changes – such as glass partitions in break rooms. However, after the law came into force, this was no longer feasible everywhere.
In a first pilot project, in cooperation with the Ground Services management, three smoking cabins from QleanAir Scandinavia were tested for one year at one of the operational departments. The smoking cabins were well received by all colleagues. The cabins proved to be a true miracle solution for non-smoker protection:
- Acceptance among both smokers and especially non-smokers was 100% within just three to four days.
- Combining smoker and non-smoker rooms created a satisfactory situation for all employees.
- Removing the partitions resulted in more space and areas for employees.
- Communication and “social interaction” among employees of all nationalities was promoted thanks to the well-functioning smoking cabins. There is no odor nuisance outside the cabins.
- Smokers’ discipline in limiting cabin occupancy to a maximum of eight people is remarkable.
- Thanks to QleanAir Scandinavia’s advanced technology, an improvement in ambient air quality was achieved throughout the room.
Conclusion
After the project year ended, smoking cabins were installed in three more departments of Ground Services. There too, employee acceptance was very quick. With these very positive practical experiences, the company now aims to install QleanAir Scandinavia’s smoking cabins across the entire operational area and all departments of Fraport AG at Frankfurt Airport. The experiences over the past two years, especially with QleanAir Scandinavia’s “all-inclusive service package,” allow all involved to draw a positive conclusion. QleanAir Scandinavia has earned our full confidence as a partner for smoking cabins.
