Oil Mist

Challenges

Oil mist and oil smoke is a collection of fine droplets of oil suspended in the air. Oil mist is typically generated during industrial processes that involve the use of lubricants or cutting fluids, which are subjected to high-speed machinery operations such as cutting, grinding, drilling, and milling. The mist and oil smoke can also form through processes like heating, spraying, splashing, or condensation of oil vapors. The particles in oil mist are usually very small, ranging from submicron sizes up to several micrometers in diameter.

Oil mist presents several challenges across various environments, particularly in industrial settings. It poses a severe health hazard to employees and can lead to respiratory problems, skin irritation and increases the risk of cancer. Oil mist also create safety hazards due to that it is highly flammable and increase the risk of fire and creates slippery surfaces where it settles, increasing the risk of slipping accidents. It also poses hygiene challenges, as it increases the risk of growth of bacteria and mold. However, the challenges that oil mist presents do not stop there, it can also lead to operational issues such as equipment damages, creating e.g. short circuits in machinery and increase the maintenance costs in terms of cleaning as well as maintenance requirements for machinery.

Challenges

Oil mist is a problem in several environments, particularly those involving the use of oils and lubricants in industrial processes. Metalworking operations in manufacturing and machining facilities, such as cutting, grinding, drilling, milling, and turning often generate oil mist from metalworking fluids used for cooling and lubrication.

In plastic and rubber manufacturing, lubricants used in molds and extrusion equipment can generate oil mist. Similarly, the textile industry, chemical and petrochemical plants as well as pulp and paper industry also face an oil mist challenge. Also in food processing plants, the use of oils in cooking and frying can generate mist, impacting the working environment as well as maintenance costs in terms of cleaning and product quality.

Benefits

By using QleanAir’s FS 70 Oil Mist, you can improve the air quality in your company, ensuring a healthier and safer working environment for your employees. By capturing and separating the oil mist in the air, the risk of sick leave and long-term respiratory diseases is also reduced. Furthermore, the lifespan of the machines is increased and the risk of machines becoming clogged and/or malfunctioning is reduced, resulting in less downtime and lower maintenance costs.
