In many cases, these issues can negatively affect the business monetarily, and having a solution is therefore crucial. Odors from food, perfume, or other people negatively impact the overall impression that guests have on the facility, which might lead to them not returning to the establishment. In casinos, poor indoor air quality can make people tired, which in turn makes them more likely to leave early and spend less money in the facility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the serious consequences of poor ventilation became very apparent. Poor ventilation means an increased risk of bacteria and viruses spreading, especially in crowded facilities such as hotels, casinos, and restaurants.

Then there are of course the challenges that come with smoking. There are almost always smokers among both guests and employees. Having inconveniently located smoking areas affects the business in several ways. Employees having to take unnecessarily long smoke breaks due to them having to get to the designated smoking area decreases productivity. Guests who need to go outside to smoke will most likely bring other people to keep them company, which leads to revenue loss in the facility due to less money spent indoors. Additionally, when people smoke outside the entrance, they litter the ground with cigarettes.
