Smoke cabins and smoking rooms for offshore installations

Offshore facilities such as shipping vessels, cruise ships, and oil rigs often face challenges regarding smoking and indoor tobacco smoke. Space is generally limited while demends on fire safety are high. Smoking outside on oil platforms is normally banned, and smoking rooms tend to have insufficient air cleaning, which contributes to an unhealthy and unpleasant indoor environment. If the designated smoking areas are hard to get to, or unpleasant, the risk of unsafe indoor smoking increases. When smoking is only allowed on the decks of the cruise ships, guests tend to bring others to keep them company, which leads to revenue loss. Thankfully, these challenges can be easily solved with the right air cleaning solutions.

Challenges

One of the main air quality-related challenges that offshore locations face is smoking, especially since there almost always are smokers among both guests and staff. Not offering smokers convenient smoking zones can lead to unsafe indoor smoking. Shipping companies face harsh international bans on smoking on their vessels, and fire, health, and safety regulations forbid indoor smoking, while smoking on deck is banned as well. Smoking outdoors is banned on oil platforms. However, smoking rooms without proper air cleaning are unpleasant to stay in and release tobacco smoke to the outside, exposing non-smokers to secondhand smoke and creating an displeasing environment. Smoking rooms are a common way for companies to solve these issues.

When guests on cruise ships go to outdoor smoking areas to smoke, they tend to return to their cabins afterwards due to coldness. Revenue losses occur in this case, due to guests not returning to the bar or other entertainment areas after smoking.

Benefits

There are several different solutions to the smoking-related challenges that offshore businesses and facilities might face. For already existing smoking rooms, we would recommend using our FS 15 Carbon for more efficient air cleaning. For other environments, we would recommend using our space efficient S-Line Safety smoking cabins, S 30, S 40, and S 60 that fit in most areas with only 2051 mm in construction height. The S-line Safety smoking cabins are completely non-flammable and meet the highest fire safety requirements. Additionally, all of our smoking cabins are equipped with our patented fireproof ash handling system. By using any of these smoking solutions, you can protect non-smokers from secondhand smoke, while also creating a more pleasant indoor environment and increasing your revenue.
